A Valentine's Day Poem

What is love?
A divine gift yearned for by mortal hands?
The ultimate fulfillment of human demands?
A special brand of comfort found in warm dinner plates?
The "happily ever after" every maiden awaits?
Is it always the X in the map of your mind?
An excuse to be hopelessly, foolishly blind?

What is love?

In the midst of what every twisted definition precedes

Lies a sight that transcends romanticized meant-to-be's

A catalyst for violence and pain and bloodshed

What use is of a soulmate if they are dead?

What is love?

Are thorns of the rose all there is to be found?

For not only such evil is "love" renowned

A force that trusts, hopes, perseveres

A silver lining prevails through all the tears

The gaze of a lover, the beauty of sonder

And I wonder I wonder I wonder

Because over cliffs and mountains and rugged terrains

Below the starry sky, drenched by unrelentless rain

In nooks and crannies of chocolate boxes

An object of countless paradoxes

From heart to heart, the same burning passion

Thereby echoes the very same question

What is love what is love what is love what is

Sometimes I'm not even sure if I know.
